Rock drummer Jason Sutter to perform with drumline Saturday
The drumline will be having its spring concert this Saturday at Stuver Auditorium at 7 p.m.
Jason Sutter, who has played drums for Foreigner, Smash Mouth, Marilyn Manson, and Chris Cornell will be playing with the drumline.
Tickets are $10, and the proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Jude’s, along with Sutter’s appearance fee.
“We donate to Make-A-Wish, because we’ve had past drumline students that have had cancer and beat it,” director Quiyan Murphy said.
This will be the first time Sutter has collaborated with a high school group.
Murphy talked to Sutter at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) about doing a collaboration.
The drumline students are going to benefit from playing with Sutter because it will give them experience playing with a professional, Murphy said.
“I’m planning on majoring in music education,” senior Chad Solis said. “Jason Sutter has been where I am and it’s inspiring to see people that have gone on to do the things they love; it helps me realize I can do that too.”
