This week’s Farmer Focus is junior Analise Slayton, a talented artist. Analise has been making art since she was a little girl and said she plans to use it throughout the rest of her life.

Q: How did you get into art?

A: I always have done art, but, recently, I have been interning at an art studio in Flower Mound, so now I have been taking more art classes here as well.”

Q: Why do you like art?

A: “It allows you to express yourself, and to get all of your ideas out.”

Q: Who inspired you to become an artist?

A: “There is an artist that works at the place that I intern at and her name is Mrs. Barbra. She’s really good at everything and she makes me want to get better.”

Q: What’s your favorite type of media art-wise?

A: I like drawing, but I also like mixed media like watercolor and to just layer the drawing.”

Q: Who’s your favorite artist?

A: “Andy Warhol.”

Q: Do you have a favorite drawing technique?

A:No, I just try to use whatever fits the mood.”

Q: What has been your favorite art piece that you have made?

A:I made this 4-by-4 painting of Marilyn Monroe and that was pretty good.”

Q: Is art your future career?

A: “I don’t really know right now. At first I thought it was because that’s what I’ve always done. I was looking at different things, but I will definitely minor in art when I go to college.”

Q: What was your first major art work?

A: “I tried to draw myself in fifth grade and we put it on a magnet. Now that I look back, it doesn’t look any good, but back then I thought it was great.”

Q: Have you won any awards for your artwork? If so, how many and what are they for?

A:  “I won special recognition for VASE two years ago. I won an art contest in fifth grade and a couple art contests in middle school.”

Q: What’s your favorite style of drawing?

A: “I like realistic but in a creative way. I like to make something look real, even if it’s not real.”

Q: What’s your favorite drawing material?

A: “Pencil or Sharpie.”

Q:  What’s your favorite type of material to draw on?

A: “Usually paper when it comes to drawing, but if I’m painting I paint on anything from pieces of wood to canvases.”
