This week’s Farmer Focus is on sophomore Angel Helwick, an active member in choir who talked about how he got started, why he sings and what he plans to do next.

Q: What made you choose choir?
A: “I choose choir because I really like to sing, and when we sing together as a class I can connect with everyone else who loves doing what I do.”
Q: Who inspired you to sing?
A: “No one really inspired me but myself, and just being able to bring out the inner voice in me and show people who I am and what I want to be.”
Q: What’s your motto?
A: “My motto is ‘sing till you can’t speak.’ It means sing until you have nothing else in you. When you sing you want to let it all out from the heart.”
Q: Do you hope to be in choir in college?
A: “I do hope to because I could enjoy college a little bit more and the love that have for singing will never fade as I get older.”
Q: How long have you been singing?
A: “I’ve been singing since I could talk. Also being in choir for two years really helped me use my voice when I sing to music that I love.”
Q: What’s important about being in choir?
A: “That we can all sound good if we all sing together with passion, and have a good time as well.”
Q: What have you learned being in choir?
A: “That you can all connect with one voice, and you can be yourself and no one will judge you.”
Q: Is there another hobby that you have?
A: “My other hobby would be soccer. I actually play for the LHS JV1 – goal keeper. I play soccer because it helps me stay in shape, it also helps with my emotions to channel them into energy.”
Q: What’s your favorite thing about choir?
A: “My favorite thing about choir is everything it offers me. It lets me become who I truly am and what I love to do. Also it’s something I did when I was little, so I’m fascinated by it.”
Q: What keeps you focused during a concert?
A: “My choir director keeps me focus because I respect him, and I want to impress him as well, and everyone else in general. I also stay focused by my director because I don’t want to mess up.”
