ZOOMING IN

Q: What sort of extracurricular activities are you participating in?

A: “Mu Alpha Theta, UIL science (co-captain), NHS, Interact, Academic Decathlon and Student Council.”

Q: What has Academic Decathlon taught you?

A: “Academic Decathlon has taught me how to consistently maintain a good work and study ethic. Academic Decathlon has also prepared me for real life situations such as procedures for interviews, and has also allowed me to become a more cooperative person in a facility. In Academic Decathlon, there is a lot of teamwork and this class has taught me the value of collaboration and relationships.”

Q: If you were to receive grant money, what would you spend it on?

A: “I would use my grant money for my college expenses. But if I have some left over, I would definitely save it so I can invest for my future, such as a new car or a dog.”

Q: How would you describe yourself as a student, both socially and academically?

A: “I would describe myself as very empathetic and an ambitious person, in both social and academic situations. Although classwork and homework can be very stressful, I try my best to keep my head high and realize that my grades and GPA will favor my hard work in the long run. I am constantly tired, but I have goals to work for. Also, I strongly believe everyone deserves comfort and love in their life; I will always strive to completely put myself in a friend’s position when they are in a difficult situation so that I can fully understand what they are going through, [and] I can help them out with the best of my abilities because I would want someone to do the same for me.”

Q: What do you do in your free time?

A: “In my free time, I would hang out with the squad, of course. We always go out to eat because there honestly isn’t really anything else to do besides that.”

Q: As a junior, what have you learned so far about high school?

A: “My junior year has been the most enriching and stressful school year out of my entire high school career, so far. I have developed an entirely different work ethic, which is absolutely more efficient and productive than my previous years in high school. I have never been as stressed out as I have during junior year because I have to prepare to take the SAT and ACT on top of my assigned schoolwork. Although junior year has been incredibly stressful, I have become friends with amazing people. My friends are the most encouraging, supportive, loving and insanely weird people ever. I’m so thankful to have them in my life because they do relieve my stress throughout the school year with their unconditional support and love. So far, I have realized high school can be nerve-racking but the struggle has definitely kept me humble and I am grateful for that.”
