ZOOMING IN
Q: How long have you been dancing and what inspired you to start?
A: “I have been dancing for 12 years. My grandmother inspired me to become a dancer. She was a dancer and when I was little; she would always teach me and we would dance all the time.”
Q: What has been one of your favorite parts of Farmerettes this year?
A: “One of my favorite parts would be the girls on the team but also football season. The bond I have with the girls is different because we all connected very quickly and always [get] along. Performing during halftime at football games was always my favorite.”
Q: What helps you memorize and remember all your dances?
A: “I think what helps me memorize all my dances is really listening to the music and then going home and practicing [the routines]. Music is really important in dance so I think it’s important to know the music.”
Q: What does dance mean to you?
A: “Dance means a lot of different things to me but it mostly just means I can forget everything that’s happening in my life and just be happy. It’s an opportunity to clear my mind.”
Q: What style of dance is your favorite and why?
A: “I really like jazz because it’s so high energy and it gets your adrenaline going. I believe I’m much stronger in that style compared to other dances.”
Q: Why is dance important to you?
A: “Dance is important to me because I was very close to my grandmother so when I lost her, I felt like dance was the only thing I had left of her. It was always something we shared so I hold it close to my heart.”
Q: How has dance influenced your life?
A: “Dance has really impacted my life and I think that’s because it has a lot of meaning to me. I feel really happy when I’m dancing and no other feeling can compare to it.”
Q: On average how many hours a day do you spend practicing dance?
A: “I train around two to three hours a day and four to five hours on the weekend. I used to dance at Footlights Dance Studio so I still go there to practice.”
