ZOOMING IN
Q: What is your favorite musical composition?
A: “It was a piano composition I made when I was younger called ‘Death of a Brother.’ Fast forward to when I was 15 or 16, I fixed it and made it actually sound good. You can tell by the name why I made it.”
Q: What would you consider to be the most challenging aspect of composing music?
A: “It would have to be two different factors that kind of go with each other. Both determination and patience are needed to finish a composition, and it can take a very long time to finish one, at least for me. I’ve heard it was the same for other composers I’ve met. My pieces are shorter, so I can only imagine what it’s like for other people.”
Q: How did you start your passion for music and when?
A: “I can’t tell you exactly when, but I definitely knew how it began. My mom bought me an electric keyboard when I was very little. I was just punching on the keyboard, and I thought it was cool that it made sounds.”
Q: How did you feel when the chamber orchestra played a piece you wrote for the spring concert last year?
A: “I was obviously very happy, but I also felt honored. It was a piece I’ve been making for all this time, so for it to be actually heard by people and them liking it, made me feel really nice.”
Q: Describe a time when a director or a musician disagreed with you. How did you deal with it?
A: “I remember making beats with this guy, and he kept changing his mind about how it should sound. I did not like working with them because he would wait until I finished the beat and then say it wasn’t good enough. We did that five more times until I said ‘Nah, we ain’t doing this.’”
Q: What inspires you to make music?
A: “I value happiness a lot. I feel like if I make something that can make others happy, their lives could be a little more bearable.”
Q: What instruments do you play and why?
A: “My main instrument is the piano, but I also play the violin at school, as well as the electric bass, although I’m horrible at that one. The reason why I play the piano is because I was given a little keyboard on my birthday.”
Q: What else do you create other than music pieces?
A: “Me and my friends try to make mini games and script writing. We try our best, but we don’t do too well.”
Q: If you could meet any music artist from any point in time, who would it be and why?
A: “It would have to be either Michael Jackson or Paganini. I mean, Michael Jackson is just that guy, but I also want to see if the devil accusations are true with Paganini.”
