Farmer Feedback: Seniors share college plans

Where are you going to college and what are you majoring in?

I chose Vanderbilt from the list of partner schools because of its unique balance of academic rigor and vibrant campus life, stated by its “Work Hard, Play Hard” motto. I was fortunate to be one of the few to receive a full-ride scholarship. Given my passion for medicine, I pursued a double major in Neuroscience and Biochemistry. Neuroscience will provide me with a deep understanding of the brain and nervous system, which is crucial for my aspirations in the medical field. On the other hand, Biochemistry will strengthen my foundation in human biology and chemistry, preparing me for the rigorous coursework of medical school—including organic chemistry, a class I am admittedly not looking forward to.”

I plan to attend The University of Texas at Dallas and major in Computer Science because it has a strong program and great opportunities for research and internships. I’m passionate about technology and problem-solving, and this major will help me build the skills I need for a career in tech.”

I plan on going to Texas A&M and majoring in the field of botany. Personally, Texas A&M has the best field for me, because it’s an [agriculture] school. I wanted to major in it is because I’ve always been interested in plants. During biology [class], you have to learn about plants in their structure [and] that was really fascinating to me and I really liked it. I wanted to go to school for that.”

I’m currently undecided, but a couple options that I have are Columbia, Harvey, Mudd and UT Austin, and I mainly plan to major in mechanical engineering or something aerospace related. Growing up, I was always really interested in airplanes and outer space. I was always that kid who would point out when plane would fly over. I got really interested in planes and how they work and then I was like ‘Oh, I might as well make some.’ So I decided that I wanted to do airspace engineering.”

I plan on attending NCTC because it has a business management program that will help me pursue a career in management. My father is an operations manager and I’d like to do what he does for work someday. Once I’ve finished two years at NCTC, I will transfer to the University of North Texas and major in operations and supply management. I’ve always had mindfulness for problem solving and would like to expand my knowledge.”

I’m going to Texas State, and I’m going to major in criminal justice. I really want to go to Texas State because I love the campus [and] I have a lot of friends there. I’d love to major in criminal justice because I have a lot of family that works in law and it inspires me to help other people.”

I’m going to UNT to major in music. I want to major in music because at UNT, they have a really good program. I’ve loved music throughout high school, so I just want to keep doing that. [I want to] join a professional group in the future.”
