Last month, the National Honor Society hosted a donation drive for the thrift store that will be open on Monday, March 3 during all lunches. The store will be located in the Auditorium Foyer with all clothes donated on sale to students at an affordable price.
There have been roughly 300 donations of clothes this year that will be able to help our fellow Farmers fill out their closets with new clothes for cheap.
“I really enjoyed seeing so many kids walk away last year with bags full of new clothes, new to them,” NHS sponsor Blake Hollowell said. “I think it means a lot. Whether you’re a frugal person or a fashion forward person, there’s something for everybody with this drive.”
The thrift store will have a wide span of T-shirts, pants, hats, shoes and accessories with prices ranging from one to five dollars.
“I feel like I’m helping students even though I don’t really know the students that I’m helping,” senior Sydney Williams said. “It feels like because I donated clothes, it’s helping build a community knowing that other people are also going to donate clothes.”
This is the second year in a row NHS officers have worked to make the donation drive and thrift store available for students to redesign their wardrobes.
“The planning process was a lot longer [compared to last year] because though we have done this before, we had to make sure we wanted to go a little bigger this year,” NHS historian Zuri Melton said. “We spent a lot of time after school and behind the scenes figuring stuff out.”
The NHS officers see the thrift store not only as an opportunity to provide students with a way to obtain new clothes for a good price, but as a way to further connect Farmers and view school as a place more than where people go to learn.
“I think [students] can learn that you want people in school to interact with each other more,” Melton said. “Build bridges, unification, it’s not that we’re just coming [to school], we do stuff for each other to benefit our people.”
