ZOOMING IN
Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major and why that major?
A: “I will attend college at Texas A&M and major in marine biology because I like the ocean. Then, I want to specifically study sharks.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “I’ve been in theater, NHS, Interact, StuCo and I don’t know if I’m officially a part of the club, but I go with my friend to the GSA clubs.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “I know from theater, we sometimes have really late night rehearsals, so when [it came] to find time to do homework for my classes, I had to do it during rehearsals.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “[I would say] AP calculus because of the numbers and memorizing all of the formulas.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “My mom because she’s always been there [for me] and if I have a question, she would do her absolute best to help me find an answer. She has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, encouraged me to try my best, gave me advice, stayed up late with me while I completed projects and had my best interest at heart. My dad has also supported me academically in similar ways by inspiring my creative and critical thinking and helped me with my math homework.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “My most memorable part of high school was hanging out with my friends and making new friends. [Also] the football games were memorable because I would go with friends, and we would stand in the student section and participate in the chants. I didn’t go to any homecomings because that just isn’t my thing, but I did go to banquets. The most enjoyable banquets that I have attended are the theatre ones because it is like a giant hangout, and this is when next season’s shows are announced.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “Just do your best and live in the moment instead of thinking too much about the past.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “I’m most excited about meeting a bunch of new people and actually being able to get more hands on stuff. I am excited to join some of the clubs they have to offer, such as dive club and also learn about the other clubs and organizations they have. I am looking forward to football games, research in marine biology and participating in any traditions that Texas A&M may have.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “Probably somewhere out in the ocean, doing field research and trying to make the ocean environment better than what it currently is. I’m planning on becoming a marine biologist. I am aiming for a masters degree and working on my maritime license with the National Guard.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “Trying to do more of the activities because I know there’s some things I haven’t done that I probably should have, but I don’t think there is anything [else] that I would change about my high school experience. I definitely wish I hadn’t been so hard on myself, but I think that is just who I am and is what has gotten me to where I am today.”
