ZOOMING IN
Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major and why that major?
A: “Case Western Reserve University in Ohio for mechanical engineering. When I work into medical devices and prosthetics, that works more into the mechanical aspects of my major.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “I’ve done culinary arts at TECC West, been on the robotics team and done tournaments. I also did tennis in freshman year.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “Having a positive mindset, not letting a bad grade get to you [or] get in the way of your work.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: “AP U.S. History. It had a lot of reading and I didn’t do a lot of that.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “My friends, they give me a lot of support. They help me get my mind off of school whenever I’m stressed out.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “The culinary arts program. I’ve been in it since sophomore year and for four semesters now. I’ve been doing a lot and it’s been a lot of fun. Meeting people and doing more hands-on activity with other people instead of just sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher lecture.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “Work on your confidence. Don’t get too stressed out about school and focus on your mental health instead of constantly worrying about grades.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “I’m excited about going to a new place and the independence of it. Pursuing what I want to do more instead of [how it is in] high school, where you have to do all these classes. I can focus on one thing I’m really interested in.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “Working somewhere that I can help with making medical devices or prosthetics. Being able to help people with their health but not as a doctor or nurse, but more like equipment and technology in a broader sense.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “I wish I pursued art more. I did a lot of culinary, but I do a lot of drawing outside of school. I feel like I would like to do more of that in school.”
