Q: What college will you attend? What is your intended major and why that major?
A: “I’m going to attend Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, specifically the College of Engineering so I can major in mechanical engineering. I specifically want to go into aerospace engineering, mainly because I really like planes. I really liked planes growing up and I wanted to make planes.”
Q: What extracurriculars have you been involved in throughout high school?
A: “I’ve been involved in academic decathlon, NHS, Interact, SAPP, JWAC and a couple others, but those are the main ones.”
Q: What was the most challenging aspect about balancing extracurriculars and academics?
A: “It was mainly having time management because I suck at time management. I’m so bad at it, so I would have a habit of overbooking myself or not giving myself enough time to work on things and then expecting myself to actually get it done when I didn’t give myself enough time for it.”
Q: What class was the most challenging for you? Why?
A: I’d say honors pre calc when it still existed. Honors pre calc was hard because it was the first math class I ever struggled in. Also AP physics C, which I’m taking right now at Marcus. I don’t know if it’s just calculus based physics that doesn’t get into my head.”
Q: Who has helped you the most throughout these last four years? How have they helped you?
A: “I’d say my AcDec coaches have probably been the biggest help to me, especially since they’re the teachers I’ve known the longest. Whenever I have a problem, I kind of go to them, or whenever I need help with a subject, I go to them because they’re the teachers I trust the most.”
Q: What has been the most memorable part of high school?
A: “I’d say getting to be involved in clubs because I feel like anything can be boring if you make it boring. But if you involve yourself in things, then you’re going to have fun.”
Q: What advice would you give to your freshman self?
A: “Don’t overwork yourself, specifically junior year. I took eight AP classes and I don’t know why I did because there was no point in doing that. I tend to overwork myself so much and push myself to my limits and that can be detrimental to your mental health. So mainly just try your best that you can, without forcing yourself to go past your limits.”
Q: What are you most excited about regarding college?
A: “To experience new things, since I’m moving to Pennsylvania and they have snow. I’ve always wanted powder snow or a white Christmas, it’s something I’ve always wanted to have. I feel like I’m genuinely going to have to meet new people and get to further my education. I want to feel challenged and like I am at college.”
Q: Where do you hope to see yourself in 10 years?
A: “With a good job definitely and just enjoying life. I don’t want to be miserable and have a job that I hate. I want to be able to enjoy what I’m doing and find happiness in the work that I do. I just want to be happy.”
Q: What would you change about your high school experience?
A: “I would take everything more slowly. I wish I could’ve been nicer to myself and taken time.”
