Continuing its ongoing tradition of bringing free live music to the people of Lewisville, the Sounds of Lewisville concert series will once again raise the curtains this fall, delivering the performances of Bodie Powell on Oct. 4, Spector’s Gun Collection on Oct. 11, and Naked Lunch on Oct. 18.
Founded in 1991, Sounds of Lewisville originated as a family entertainment option at the Vista Ridge Amphitheatre. Since then the concert series has been through many location changes and is now going to be held in the Medical Center Lewisville Grand Courtyard in Old Town.
“It’s a great way to get outside on a Tuesday evening,” said James Kunke, community relations and tourism director. “The weather’s getting cooler and it gives you something to do rather than sitting at home watching TV all day long.”
While the concert has had many touring and award-winning musical acts such as the Dixie Chicks and Brave Combo, the show encourages artists and bands unknown to the public to come aboard the Sounds of Lewisville train. With admission to the concerts being free, the city planners said they hope the events will create a deeper sense of community.
“In terms of the public I think it’s important to note that it is free,” Kunke said. “That it is a time to get out and meet their neighbors and from a city prospective, it’s a good way to bring people to the city and to just enjoy themselves.”
Sounds of Lewisville generally bring a large crowd to watch the performances.
“It really varies depending on the band and the weather,” Kunke said. “If the weather is usually hot, not many people show up. But it ranges from 150 to 550 people.”
All concerts start at 7 p.m. Food and beverage concessions are available on site.
