Review: ‘The Peanuts Movie’ fails to entertain
Revival of classic friends misses mark
The Peanuts universe is classic. Most public school kids remember sitting in a classroom the day before a big holiday break in elementary school watching Charlie Brown movies, laughing at the great pumpkin, the messed up Christmas tree and the Thanksgiving feast.
When the new Peanuts movie was announced a lot of people were pretty excited and went to the theater prepared to have a good time.
Some were shocked to find out the normally goofy and laugh-inducing characters kids have known and loved for years were nowhere near their normal level of excellence.
Admittedly, the movie is not intended for teenagers. However, it still looked like the other movies, which almost everyone, even those older than 13, tends to enjoy. The movie included a lot of humor that was intended for the older audience but it always fell short of being truly funny.
Looking around the theater, even the younger target audience could be caught sleeping (rather soundly) and even softly snoring. It was obvious even the smaller children didn’t take much interest.
Out of a group of four teenagers, the highest rating given out of five was a three, while two gave it a two and one went so low as to give it a one.
The movie didn’t really live up to anyone’s expectations. Even a movie theater employee nonchalantly suggested to maybe pick a different movie to spend $14 on.
If you intend to go to see the movie for yourself it would be a good idea to go to a matinee 2D showing somewhere like Cinemark or somewhere you might get a discount. Don’t go to AMC on a Saturday night and see it in 3D … not speaking from experience or anything.
The movie had a lot to live up to, and it just didn’t hit the mark. While it had a few decent moments, as a whole it was not worth the time and money.
