Throwback Thursday: Movies

Graphic by Taylor Carver.

Throughout our childhood we’ve seen movies that we’ve all loved and will forever cherish. We’ve seen movies we want our kids and the future generations to see. For this first edition of Throwback Thursday, I will focus on the top five movies that came out when we were kids.

“High School Musical”

Ten years ago, believe it or not, Disney’s High School Music was released. Yeah, you heard right. It has been 10 years. Doesn’t that make you feel old? I know I feel old thinking about it.

The Disney musical was released on Jan. 20, 2006. All I have to say is “We’re all in this together.”

“Shrek”

It’s another movie we’ve all seen, hopefully, and one of my all-time favorites. It’s hard to believe that it was released in 2001 making it 15 years old this coming April. At least they made three sequels. Another aspect that makes this flashback worthy is that the most recent Shrek movie, “Shrek Forever After,” hit theaters almost six years ago. Life is sure fast.

“The Incredibles”

The superhero animated film was released in 2005 making it 11 years old this year. This was the perfect story of a family with superpowers who goes through keeping their secret and later saves the world. If you liked that, just wait. There are current plans for a sequel that will be released in 2019. I know that’s a while, but I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

“Finding Nemo”

“42 Wallaby Way, Sydney,” yeah you know it, Nemo. This 2003 animated movie was an instant classic after its release. We can all remember the funny things Dory said or did throughout the entire adventure. You laughed as Dory made whale sounds and repeatedly messed up Nemo’s name, but it’s OK because she has short term memory loss. Speaking of memory loss, I hope you do remember Dory because there will be a sequel called “Finding Dory.” It is currently set to be released this year in June.

“Monsters, Inc.”

It’s another movie that everyone has to have seen at least 20 times. If not,“We have a 2319,” and that would be you, just saying. This awesome movie came out in 2001. Wow, right? It’s another that makes me feel old. Even though we got a sequel to the movie, it’s just not as good compared to the first one. Hopefully there will be another Monsters, Inc. movie.
