The romance-comedy “Our Little Secret” released on Netflix Nov. 27, starring Lindsay Lohan, who comes back better than ever with her emotional and comical acting.
This became one of Lindsay Lohan’s best movies along with “Freaky Friday” and “Mean Girls.” She does well in the comedic genre and really knows how to start some drama.
The main characters, Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding), were inseparable from childhood, and turned from close friends to a couple over the 18 years they’ve spent together. When Avery receives a job offer in England, Logan almost proposes at her farewell party, so she could stay, being afraid of losing her. However, Avery breaks up with him out of the pressure. The plot seems complicated from the beginning because having to leave a partner after spending 18 years together is hard even though Logan claimed she was running away rather than moving.
Fast forward 10 years when Avery and her new boyfriend, Cameron attend his family’s Christmas party. To the audience’s surprise, Logan was there as well and happens to be dating Cassie, Cameron’s sister. Not only that, but Avery and Logan are introduced to each other as if they were strangers, but Logan gets the hint to play along with a friendly greeting so it wouldn’t be suspicious to the family. However, the most intense part was Avery and Logan figuring out their plan to keep their past relationship a secret. To be honest, this part of the story was a bit over dramatic given that they didn’t look much different for them to meet again in that long.
A lot of viewers were unsatisfied because of the ‘poor acting’ and the plot progression of Avery and Logan’s love story and the drama in the home, yet the most agreeable opinion was that most of the scenes were awkward. For example, the candy scene, the Christmas present mix up and the affair between Cameron’s father and his ex-girlfriend’s mother. However, the movie was funny and should still be considered a good comedy.
The intensity of Avery and Logan hiding their secret allowed them to get closer, especially with the two couples spending the Christmas week in the family home together and Logan covering up for Avery every time something goes wrong. It was really heartwarming that there was still a spark between them after all these years. Perhaps, this showed a “right person, wrong timing” situation for them because they already had a lover, which prevented them from flirting or being too friendly. Meanwhile, they still had an eye out for each other.
The best part of the movie was the ending, where Avery and Logan eventually rekindle their relationship after getting the secret out. It’s obvious they belong together mainly because of what they’ve been through along the way. With that, they move into Avery’s home and continue on with their strong relationship. This movie was loving, amusing and deserves a 9 out of 10.
