Director Leigh Whannell created what could’ve been an outstanding storyline and film released on Jan. 17 titled “Wolf Man.”In his past works, which include the well-known Insidious and Saw franchises, audiences enjoyed the hit movies.
The film starts off with a young boy named Blake Lovell (Christopher Abbott) and his father going hunting after a hiker vanished in the mountains of Oregon. The boy and father spotted a mysterious humanoid monster lurking in the forest and decided to hide in an elevated hunting blind.
The film doesn’t become exciting until the monster starts attacking Blake’s family later on in the story. Almost everyone who has watched it said that the film was horrible, boring and unnecessary. The lack of thriller and jumpscares and overall allurement really makes those comments true.
The movie continues on with the Lovell family going to Blake’s childhood home to spend a few nights. It all goes well until they begin to hear noises outside with ominous occurrences starting for the family.
The audience says the film either didn’t have a good storyline, the acting was “more annoying than the characters” and just messy in general. It also felt like the main characters, Blake, his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and his daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth), lacked a significant storyline.
The falling action of the film did catch the attention of the people. Blake soon finds out the monster was his long-lost father, Grady Lovell. The bigger plot twist is when the main character turns into a werewolf and kills the father, becoming more lupine and insane and losing his humanity.
One of the worst parts in the storyline was the addition of Blake having a secret affair, but he tried to repair his marriage with Charlotte by taking her and their daughter on a road trip. This was irrelevant to the story and most horror movies don’t even add situations like this, causing the rating for the movie to fall rapidly.
Overall, the movie was a 5 out of 10. It was extremely rushed, not entertaining and most importantly, the CGI was tremendously poor. It had people on their feet in the beginning but soon died down throughout the film and end.
