World renowned Latin-pop artist Kali Uchis released her deluxe album, “Sincerely: P.S.,” on Friday, Oct. 3. Uchis teased her deluxe via Instagram while on her North America Sincerely tour; the deluxe was shortly released after.
The deluxe added five new songs. Before the deluxe release, Uchis released “Cry About It!” featuring Ravyn Lenae early on Friday, Sept. 10. “Cry About It” has a more upbeat instrumental compared to her previous songs on “Sincerely,” and it also contains some Spanish lyrics. It could be to describe Uchis introducing a new emotion for herself to feel. According to Uchis via Instagram, “I wrote this song to celebrate the fact that I’m gonna keep getting better/hotter/more abundant etc & nobody can stop me.”
The next song is “Whispers of the Wind…” which has more drum instrumentals that balances with Uchis’ angelic voice. “Be happy for what you have…You never know how long it’s gonna last.” This is meant to describe a sense of gratefulness and build a bond within one’s relationship.
One of the most R&B melodic tracks is “Pretty Promises,” featuring Mariah the Scientist. This feature was teased on Instagram shortly before the deluxe release. From the instrumental beats to the sensual lyrics, the song has a more nostalgic feeling than Uchis’ previous album, “Isolation.” Notable lyrics state, “Pretty promises, promises…Will you promise me, promise me?” The song suggests to have a sense of trust with a partner on both sides of the relationship.
The second to last song, “Cherry on Top,” is about reasoning with a partner and wanting to build a healthy and thriving relationship. Some lyrics are “But if you’re strong, like a man should be…We’ll get along, let me be feminine.” This song adds on to what “Pretty Promises,” preaches: wanting to have a good and thriving relationship and not a perfect one.
The final song on the deluxe album is “All of the Good,” an emotional yet beautifully written ballad to end the album. Some lyrics include “And I promise I will remember the good…But every single time it starts to cross my mind that you’re not here.” Uchis revealed in an Instagram story that “All of the Good” is written about her late mother, hence the emotional and somber tone.
Overall, this album was beautiful, to say the least. “All of the Good” was a heavenly closing track on an album that discusses finding love, embracing motherhood, and coping with grief. Uchis delivers a raw emotional depth in a way that’s both authentic and artistically captivating. It is speculated this might be Uchis’ last album, and if so, it would be an amazing album to end with. This would definitely be a 10 out of 10 for the “P.S.” album.
