Thumbs: New semester, crowded hallways, finals and more

UP: New Semester, fresh start

The first semester is almost over and new classes will begin. We get a fresh start and can have a new game plan on attacking classes. Schedule changes are available to help make sure one ends the year right; the second semester is a blessing in disguise. Whether it is a more laid-back or rigorous semester, we are halfway through the year.

DOWN: Winter reading rush

The start of the new semester means the start of English classes for some students. This is no problem for those who have finished their summer reading, but for those who haven’t finished, or haven’t even started, panic is beginning to set in. Between debating how much to actually do and counting pages to find the shortest book on the list when choice is an option, many have a lot of work ahead.

UP: No time till bedtime

Don’t stress. We all know that these past two weeks have been a struggle, hectic even. The semester’s ending and finals are only a couple days away. Luckily, all of this hard work is going to be rewarded. We have a half day and a three day weekend; that means there is no time till bedtime.

DOWN: Slow crowd

School is a place where learning is a priority in a student’s life. As a result there are crowded hallways, mostly during the passing periods and after school. With only five minutes to get from class to class, getting to the final destination takes a bit of maneuvering. It’s difficult to weave in and out between people who are standing in the middle of the hallways talking to each other or are walking slow in general. If students would walk to class and spend the hour of lunch talking to their friends, they would get to class on time and not have to worry about the consequences of being late.

UP: New Year’s resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are always a good way to kick off the new year. A new fresh start full of new goals and excitement. Keeping a new year’s resolution can be a bit tricky if you’re used to your old ways. If you have great determination then you can surely achieve the goal you have set.

DOWN: Winter break then finals?

Why does the school continuously give final exams after two weeks of winter break? It’s not possible to come back to school intellectually ready to take a test on subjects we learned all the way in the beginning of the year. Teachers should administer our final exams on the week before winter break. Then after break we come back refreshed, not stressed, and ready to start second semester classes.
