A lot can be said about First Lady Michelle Obama, but on Friday, Jan. 20 this extraordinary woman will no longer be our first lady. For eight years Mrs. Obama has inspired many in a variety of different ways. Many are sad to see her go, myself included.

Throughout these eight years, Mrs. Obama has shaped a new outlook for young African American women and women in general. She stands up for girls’ education and empowers women. This has been crucial in shaping the future for young girls. Not only does she represent a woman who truly embodies a “perfect role model” but she also displays a strong sense of motherhood and compassion.

In addition to her extreme likeability and class, Mrs. Obama is also very relatable. Born and raised in the south side of Chicago, she represents many who come from struggles and hardships but rise above the crowd to become greatness. After excelling in public school Mrs. Obama went on to Princeton, where she received her bachelor’s degree, and later graduated from Harvard Law school. Early on in her life Mrs. Obama displayed a strong sense of determination, this moral stuck with her and is now displayed in her accomplishments as a First Lady.

In regards to her husband President Obama, Mrs. Obama is a prime example who shows women how to dedicate themselves to their families while never compromising themselves. She has successfully aided her husband’s success while maintaining her own image and career. Not only does she embrace the love they share, she turns it into a device to propel her presence in the community.

Mrs. Obama has launched many campaigns consisting of: Let’s Move!, Joining Forces, Reach Higher and Let Girls Learn. She has become a symbol of health and education. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and a strong emphasis on education, Mrs. Obama has changed the game entirely. Instead of hiding from the spotlight that was forced on her and  family, Mrs. Obama has turn it into her weapon of choice. Using the power supplied to the president, she has started many movements that have really created change for many young people.

In addition to her big campaigns she has also appeared on many TV shows like Sesame Street and Parks & Recreation, ensuring her face becomes known to many of the youth along with the rest of America. She has essentially changed the game with her proactive willpower to spark change. She has completely broken the first lady mold and turned it into a power position.

Many lives have been directly and indirectly changed by the Obamas, and it is sad to see the great Mrs. Obama go. She will be severely missed. “There are still many causes worth sacrificing for, so much history yet to be made,” Mrs. Obama said.
