Six athletes from assorted sports finalized their college decisions during National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 1. We caught up with all the athletes and asked them a few questions.
Katie Daigle, soccer, Baylor University
Q: What’s the best or most exciting part of the recruiting process?
A: For me, it was knowing that colleges have interest in how I play. It just makes you feel special.
Q: What inspired you to choose Baylor over other colleges?
A: Well, I want to go into the medical field, and Baylor is known for their medical program. Also, the soccer team is always known as sort of a family, so that’s important to me.
Q: Is there a player, coach, or teammate that inspired you to play soccer?
A: I’ve been inspired by Abby Wambach on the woman’s U.S. team. I always wanted to play like her, even as a little girl.
Tammy Leranth, volleyball, Hill College
Q: Why did you decide to sign with Hill College?
A: Hill College is a two-year school, so it’s an easier transition than other colleges.
Q: Were there other college options for you?
A: Yes, Paris Junior College. Their program didn’t fit me very well.
Q: What has the recruiting process been like for you?
A: It’s not nearly as stressful as I thought it was going to be. Glad to be going to Hill College soon.
Kobe Osei-Boaten, football, Holy Cross
Q: What was the best part of the recruiting process for you?
A: Going down to the campus and meeting all the players. That was really cool.
Q: What made you decide to go to Holy Cross?
A: It’s one of the top schools in the nation, and the coach told me that I will have a good chance to start playing in my freshman year.
Q: Do you plan on playing football professionally, or is there another career you have in mind after you complete college?
A: If I have the opportunity to play at the next level, I’ll definitely take it. Things could always happen along the way though, and that’s why I chose Holy Cross. [Holy Cross] has a very good background.
Lauren Reyes, soccer, Oklahoma State University
Q: Do you plan to play soccer professionally?
A: I kind of want to do it as a profession, but if it doesn’t work out like that I’ll go to law school.
Q: What was the best part of being recruited?
A: Getting my acceptance letter. It gave me the realization of all the hard work I’ve put into soccer.
Q: What made you decide to go to OSU?
A: I liked the environment there, and the soccer program is great.
Blake Rogers, baseball, Lyon College
Q: What was the recruiting process like for you?
A: The recruiting process really showed how coaches feel about you, and you can’t get a good grasp of things until you enter the process.
Q: Why did you choose Lyon College?
A: I like the program they have to offer and the coaches are really good. I get a good vibe from them.
Q: Do you plan to play baseball as your profession, or is there another career you’re pursuing?
A: I’m trying to live out the dream, ya know? If it doesn’t work out, I’ll go into the pharmacy field.
Rodrick Williams, football, University of Minnesota
Q: Why did you decide to go with Minnesota?
A: Minnesota seemed like a good fit. I won’t be red-shirted, so I feel like I can get to the next level of my game there.
Q: What do you plan on doing after college?
A: I plan on going to the NFL to play pro ball.
Q: Did any other colleges interest you?
A: Yes. Utah, Iowa, and K-state were all interesting, but Minnesota turned out to be the one I wanted to go to the most.
