The fight for the sweep
With two wins already against Hebron, Farmer baseball needs third tonight to keep playoff hopes alive
Tonight is a must-win for the Farmer baseball team as they face Hebron at home at 7 p.m..
“It’s a pretty big game, a win or go home game,” junior Caden Hartsburg said. “If we win there is a pretty good chance we’re in the playoffs; if we don’t we’re out. It all comes down to tonight.”
In order to have a chance to make playoffs, the boys must beat Hebron tonight. If they win tonight and defeat Coppell on Friday, then the last spot goes to the Farmers. If LHS wins tonight but loses tomorrow, the only way the team has the fourth spot is if Hebron loses to Marcus Friday, which the Hawks have done twice before.
“We try to just take one game at a time,” senior Jason Foley said. “We don’t think ahead and think of what’s to come. We just play each game hoping the outcome’s a win.”
Part of Foley’s focus on pitching tonight’s game lays in hitting his spots, minimizing his walks. and in hopes that his defense comes out ready to play. He said that opposing pitcher Travis Stone is a good pitcher and that they played well against him last year.
Senior Cameron Champagne said that he has faith in his pitcher.
“Knowing Foley he can shut Stone down,” Champagne said. “I feel like Travis Stone doesn’t even compare to Foley.”
This is the third meeting between Hebron and Farmers, with the Farmers winning both earlier matchups. Hartsburg said that beating them a third time is possible.
“It can be done,” Hartsburg said. “Just got to come out there and play.”
Tomorrow night’s regular season closer versus Coppell is at home, and is also senior night. Foley said he is expecting an emotional night.
“Well, if you want to see tears come out of my eyes you better come out tomorrow,” Foley said. “Hopefully after we win tonight we will come out tomorrow and beat them as well.”
