Senior Adrian Villiarreal rolls out pass against Hebron two weeks ago at Max Goldsmith Stadium. Villarreal hopes to lead the team to another home win tonight against Flower Mound.

The Fighting Farmers [2-3 Overall, 1-2 in district 6-6A] will face their neighbors to the West, Flower Mound [1-5, 0-4], for their homecoming game tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Max Goldsmith Stadium.

Farmer quarterback and senior captain Adrian Villarreal said that even though it is the homecoming game, there is no added pressure.

“It’s not a distraction at all,” Villarreal said. “It’s just a regular game.”

Junior offensive lineman Denzel Okafor shared Villarreal’s attitude.

“We need to not really focus on the outside stuff, homecoming and the dance,” Okafor said. “We just need to win this game because it’s a big one for us.”

Flower Mound has had a disappointing first half of season only winning their season opener thus far. Despite their record, Flower Mound is still a potential threat to the Farmers.

Villarreal complimented Jaguars’ quarterback Logan Davis and his skills in running the ball. This season Davis has rushed for a total of 320 yards from the quarterback position. Another standout on the Jaguar roster is Clayton Johnson. Johnson plays linebacker on the defense but is better known for his skills at wide receiver. Johnson has received for 319 yards on 20 catches averaging 16 yards per reception.

Flower Mound has also become notorious for an unconventional fast-moving offense.

“They’re really shifty on the offense,” senior defensive end DJ Jackson said.

Jackson said the key to holding Flower Mound’s continually shifting offense is just making sure everyone is focused on the play ahead.

“[Flower Mound] has a bunch of trick of plays that they pull off,” Villarreal said. “They’re very good at just catching a defense off-guard.”

With the season half over, games start to become more important to win if a team wants to qualify for the playoffs. Senior offensive lineman Alex Atchison said it is very important to win this evening’s game.

“We have to [win out] to secure our place in the playoffs,” Atchison said. “We want the win.”

Last week the Farmers had a tough 49-13 loss against the Allen Eagles. Despite the hard-pressing offense and defense of Allen, senior wide receiver Trinity Benson still managed to catch a pair of touchdown passes, including a 75-yard score from Villarreal in the first two minutes of the game.
