Remarks from a fangirl

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to celebrity fascination

Editor’s note: On Wednesday, we published our first story in “Obsessed” – a series on the “super fans” at LHS. If you or someone you know at LHS fits this description, leave us a message.

Buzz. My phone is getting a new notification from a social media site. Oh, I got a new follower, cool. I casually go back to doing my school work.

Buzz. Got another notification, Lady Gaga just tweeted.

Buzz. Justin Bieber just posted a new picture on Instagram.

Buzz. Someone just RT’d and Fav’d one of my tweets.

Buzz. Got five more new followers.

It goes like this all day long. By the end of the school day my phone is almost dead. I don’t even use my phone that much and it dies every day becasue of all the incoming notification that are sent to my white iPhone 4s.

This is otherwise known as the fangirl life. I love being a so called “super-fan.” It enlightens me because I feel like I have a purpose and that purpose is to support my idols no matter what they do. I will always be there for them and they will always be there for me either through music or by a simple tweet from them.

Yes, I get laughed at for being a crazy fangirl but I don’t really care because at least I know I have a reason to live and that my idols love me. At least I have a follow from some of my idols; Lady Gaga, Machine Gun Kelly, Austin Mahone, Justin Bieber, Kid Ink, etc.. At least I have got tweeted by or RT’d or Fav’d by my idols; Machine Gun Kelly, Kid Ink, Legacy, The Ready Set, Devin Smith, Cody Rhodes, etc.. At least I have met or came close to meeting my idols.

I have had so many cool experiences trying to meet certain celebrities and seeing them live in concert. Those who make fun of me are the ones losing out because I am enjoying life and living it to the fullest. So, what if I spend most of my nights on twitter trying to get someone’s follow, at least I have a goal in mind.

A lot of other fangirls say this, and it’s a bit of a cliche, but it is so very true: ” I didn’t choose the fangirl life, the fangirl life found me.”

You might think “why do you like this person so much? Why are you willing to give up your life for them when they don’t even know you exist?” The answer is simple. That person who you don’t like and you make fun of in front of me is my hero. They were there to make me happy and take me out of that dark place with either their music or thier pure talent. They were the ones who saved me. That’s why I would do whatever for them becasue what they did for me I could never repay them back.

Many fangirls deal with depression, anxiety and bullying. Our idols are the ones to cheer us up when we are down. They are the ones who bring us fangirls together and create an unbreakable bond and family. They are the ones that make us forget about all our problems and cope with our flaws. They are the ones that tell us to believe in ourselves and our dreams. They are the ones who make us feel accepted and loved.

So next time you or anyone wants to make fun of someone’s idol, think again. When you send hate to a celebrity in front of someone who adores them, it deeply hurts them, because you are basically making fun of both the celebrity and the fangirl.

You don’t have to be in awe of every singer or athlete, just be kind to them and their fans and fangirls, because they will jump in your face and attack you if you strongly disrespect their idol.

Just think, how would you like it if I came up to you and said I hate someone you really are in love with, or made fun of them. It probably woudn’t feel good. So, just consider everyone next time you want to make dumb remarks, because you don’t always know the whole story behind everything.
