With a 9-7 record district record, the boys basketball team clinched the third playoff spot and will face the Keller Indians, second place in district 5-6A, tonight at 7:30 p.m. on the neutral court of Coppell High School.

The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday night but had to be moved because of the inclement weather.

“It feels good knowing that all of our hard work has finally paid off,” junior Jeremiah Taylor said about making the playoffs. “We had a lot of ups and downs but knowing that we have a guaranteed spot now is reassuring.”

The Indians finished their regular season much like the Farmers, winning their last four games to lock up a second place finish. The Indians had an 11-3 record in district, with a 21-9 overall record. Keller also has a 12-2 record on the record on the road, so a neutral court should not play a big role in its approach to tonight’s game.

Senior Sean Guillory said that he does not know what to expect from Keller, but said he isn’t worried.

“We haven’t seen them play,” Guillory said. “We just have to be ready to play our game. I figure if we do what we need to, then we will get the win.”

Among the top scorers from Keller is 6-5 junior power forward Nolan Taylor. Taylor averages 17.8 points per game [according to the Dallas Morning News] as well as 9.7 rebounds per game.  Sophomore R.J. Nembhard, at 6-3, plays a key role for Keller as well, averaging 12 points per game.

Last week the Farmers had a dramatic ending to their season, defeating crosstown rival Marcus High School and clinching a playoff spot for the third year in a row. The win on senior night helped the Farmers avoid a four-team tie-breaking tournament for the fourth and final playoff spot which was won by the Marauders.

Senior Dailen Carson said the Marcus win was a night to remember.

“The environment was very intense,” Carson said. “With the crowd and the players also, it was just a great game.”
