Boys soccer started out their season with a record of 3-9-1. With a 1-5-1 district record, the team approaches the final stretch of the season with seven games left
The squad struggles with offensive efforts, giving up 23 goals while only scoring 12. With a -11 point difference, the team looks to finish strong this season.
“I think we play well as a team,” junior defender Damian Carrillo said. “But we fall off short every game. I think overall, as a team, we play better each game and improve.”
Goalkeeper Sebastian Guerrero expects better from the team, but is still hopeful about the future of the season. The team has given up the fifth most goals in the district. However, the team struggles giving up the second fewest goals. Guerrero has one thing in mind the team can work on.
“Goals, for sure,” Guerrero said. “To be honest, our results should have been better, but I feel like we can honestly pull this off. Just continue to play.”
The team has kept games relatively close, with the biggest losses coming against Hebron with a final score of 4-0 and Coppell 3-0. Other than those results, the team hasn’t lost by more than two goals.
“The boys have done really well and worked extremely hard,” head coach Brandon McCallum said. “We have been very competitive, it’s just unfortunate the results have not gone our way.”
Carillo, although not happy, wants the season to be defined by more than just the record.
“It should be defined by our hard work,” Carrillo said. “Even if we’re not the best team in the district, we still fight every game, and I think that’s how we can look at it.”
