Harmon Registrar: Angie McDaniel
Q: How has your time in education impacted you as a person?
A: “It has expanded my world as a human being. I’ve come to understand people that are very different from myself and embrace those differences.”
Q: What is something significant you have learned from spending so long as a teacher?
A: “I wasn’t a teacher (high school registrar), but I’ve learned that no matter who I’ve come in contact with through the years – I can find common ground and connect with them.”
Q: What was it that inspired you to pursue a career in education?
A: “I pursued education because the schedule was great for me as a Mom of 2. It became much more than that as time passed.”
Q: What is something you wish that you knew when you first started working as the registrar?
A: “I wish that I knew that most every mistake that I made could be corrected, and that everything works out in the end.”
Q: Would you recount a fond memory from your many years in education?
A: “I remember getting hugs from parents that were appreciative of things that I did for their students. It only happened a few times – but it kept me going!”
Q: How have you had to change or adapt your methods throughout the years?
A: “Without question, the COVID shutdown pushed me to develop technology skills that I didn’t know I had the capability of doing.”
Q: Who are you most thankful for during your journey in education and why?
A: “I am thankful for many people — but I’m most thankful to Mr. Tommy Ellington for hiring me as the Registrar at Lewisville HS North 21 years ago. I really needed the job, and he took a chance on me!”
Q: What advice would you give to someone who is just beginning their career in education?
A: “I would encourage them to continually re-evaluate their ‘Why.’ When times get tough — and they will from time to time — remember your calling and your purpose.”
Q: What are your plans going forward after you’ve retired from teaching?
A: “My husband and I are going on a Mediterranean Cruise in September. After that, I plan to work around my house and pick up some hobbies that I’ve dropped along the way.”
