“I feel volunteering is important to me because we have a heart for the people and students here in our immediate community. I feel like it’s important to give back to your community [because] at some point all of us have had help in some way whether that be from family [or] friends, some people don’t have family or friends that are there to help support. When we give back, of course, it also feels good. FCCLA is an organization that supports students in a career, anywhere that is involving families somehow, or design career, food career and human service careers anything along those lines. It’s to help students explore different career options in their future and how it relates to families. We are choosing an area of focus under the FCCLA umbrella; this month was human services. We thought of creating packs for people who are facing homelessness in our immediate community. The list is based on hygiene: deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, clothing such as socks, underwear, hand warmers and feet warmers since it’s getting to be a little bit cold, and nutrition so they have protein. A snack, two breakfast packs, there’s also a little medical kit too and it has Tylenol, Benadryl, cough drops, ear swabs and wipes. Our goal is 24 packs.”
