Girls’ wrestling remains undefeated

The girl’s wrestling team is going strong this season, undefeated at 6-0. With wins against Weatherford (30-21), Sam Houston (30-4), Nimitz(48-6), Adamson (60-0), Paschal (36-18), Plano East (45-12) and first and third place finishes at the Pink Panther Classic Plano East Tournament, head coach Joe Daniels has high expectations for the rest of this season.

“My expectations are always the same no matter what, it’s always to win,” Daniels said. “I expect to work hard and defend our district and regional championships and I expect us to be very competitive in state.”

It seems like Daniels has instilled his expectations very well into his team’s mind since the girls also seem to have the same mindset.

“I can’t specifically say what we expect to achieve in the future but we all wrestle and practice had to become number one,” varsity senior Jennie Kim said. “Our Lewisville wrestlers and I will push ourselves to maintain or achieve greater achievements than our current reputation.”

Being state-bound is something the girls are very eager to accomplish.

“[My goals are] just staying strong and dedicated, to finish as best as I can,” varsity senior Selphia Galloway said. “Leave the program better than when I came in and I would also like to place in state.”

With many new dedicated girls and several returning girls on the team this year, Daniels hopes to be able keep the team inspired and help keep this strong momentum going during this long season.

“It’s just to get them in that mindset, get them prepared to go,” Daniels said. “It’s a long season and they get kind of mentally tired.”

The girls have the Texas Ladies Classic tournament today and Dec. 14 at Frisco High School at 4 p.m. and 9 a.m. Their next home match is Dec. 19 against Paschal High School at 6 p.m. and, after that, the Mrs. Claus Slam Tournament on Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. at Coppell High School. The Cowgirl Classic tournament, canceled due to weather, has not yet been rescheduled.
