Usually when you see people running on Halloween weekend, you instantly think that they just got their pants scared off by a horror movie or a haunted house, but on Saturday some will be running for fun.
The Farmerettes are hosting a “Frightful 5K Fun Run” in Old Town on Oct. 29. The race starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. Registration the day of the race, from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., is $20 for adults and $10 for students.
Even though this is their first year doing the “Fun Run,” the Farmerettes plan to make it an annual event. Coach Linda Cragin expects a pretty big turnout.
“We are hoping for our first year to at least [have] 100 to 150 [participants], hoping that it grows every single year,” Cragin said.
Everyone who participates in the race will get a T-shirt, and the top three finishers get a plaque. There is a costume contest as well, and the three best costumes get a gift certificate. The Farmerettes are running booths where kids can do crafts, and are providing babysitting and a candy booth for trick or treaters.
Sophomore Farmerette Michealla Edwards is excited for people to come.
“People should come because it’s fun and a great way to exercise,” Edwards said.
All of the money raised will go towards the Farmerette booster club. For additional information, call or email Dana Love at (214) 488-7506 or [email protected]. Or contact Cragin at (469) 713-5190 X3217 or [email protected].
