The Lewisville track team started district at Little Elm High School on Wednesday, April 3. The team heads into familiar faces and new foes. With Guyer, Braswell and Little Elm replacing Plano, Plano West and Plano East High Schools
“We had a good track meet, [at] the Skyline meet,” senior Dylan Johnston said. That’s where I hit a personal record. But other than that, we haven’t had a lot of track meets to run off of. I came off injury from football, so my stamina isn’t where it should be, but my start is really where I improve most this year.”
Johnston placed 13th in the 400-meter dash. Setting his PR at 52.18 seconds. The team’s personal record in the 4×100 for the boys team is 42.15 seconds. That got the team in 8th place at the Michael Johnson Invitationals. Senior Zachary Waller leads the team in the 100 [10.82 seconds] and the 200-[22.30 seconds] meter dashes.
On the girls side, senior Luca Bella Francis leads the team in the 1600 meter [5 minutes, 31.01 seconds], the 3200 meter [11:59.28] and the 800 meter [2:25.09]. The 4×100 team has a season of 48.35 seconds.
“I feel that I made my personal goals and am able to keep improving everyday,” junior Aidan Murphy said. “I’ve improved on my spin, but I will always be working on it. I struggled with getting sector fouls, but I was able to fix that with working on my form. We are doing well on hitting numbers, but we need to do better on staying consistent. I feel that I made my personal goals and I am able to keep improving everyday.
Murphy leads the team this season in discus, setting the mark at 131.1 feet. Senior Luke Hudson leads the team in shot put, with the mark being at 41.10 feet. Sophomore Sydnee Upshaw leads the girls team in discus [90.8 feet], and shotput [33-6.25 feet].
Though there are new additions to the district, junior Xavier Fleming, isn’t concerned.
“I just say it’s more of a challenge,” Fleming said. “At the end of the day, you got opponents. It doesn’t matter what school they go to, an opponent’s an opponent.”
