The new Leo C. Stuver Auditorium opened for rehearsals earlier this month.

The new Leo C. Stuver auditorium finally opened during the first week of November. While remaining in the works of construction since the summer, this part of the school has been awaited by many.

“I think this is going to be a real point of pride for the entire Lewisville High School community,” said William Skelton, assistant principal in charge of facilities. “First of all, no one else in the district is going to have a facility that’s as nice as this. I don’t think any other facility will show quite as well as this and I think it is representative of the outstanding fine arts programs that we have at Lewisville High School.”

Among one the first events scheduled in the new building is the show choir concert “Way Off Broadway” tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $2 for students and $5 for adults. Kids get in free.

“This is our fourth year to host a show and we are ecstatic about our new facilities,” said Morgan Wilson, director of show choir. “It’s been a long time coming.”

Although show choir may be the first to perform, the theater students are said to be the most anxious about the opening.

“We’re all really excited to finally be on the new stage,” junior Terri Townsend said.

Teachers and students have been waiting for the moment those doors open and they’re free to spend their time inside. Theater teacher Gwendolyn Barrett, along with most of her students, are ecstatic to be able to be on a stage and practice the group’s craft as well as be able to centrally locate everything.

“After 27 years of teaching, I feel invigorated; completely rejuvenated, and ready to go to work,” Barrett said.

Although the official opening was scheduled for the first week of November for fine arts practice, the auditorium will host “Night of the Arts”, a gala which is to be held sometime during January, the official date still yet to be determined. Everyone in the community is welcomed to this event.

During this event, there will be many things to see, including short and collaborative performances by the drill team, fine arts classes, and speech and debate teams.

The new auditorium seats around 1,100 people and is reserved  for more than just the performing arts. Other important events that will occur in the future include community meetings, class meetings, and ceremonies.
