Junior class planning Vegas-themed prom

Flashing lights, tons of glitter, big billboards, and flapper girls. Vegas: Prom 2014.

Prom is on its way and the juniors have been working diligently since mid-November to make this night special. The year’s big dance is on Saturday, April 12 at the DFW Hyatt Regency hotel in Dallas.

Prom tickets are now available for purchase in the cafeteria for $65.

“Prom is a kick-off for the senior’s farewell,” said Allison Stamey, Student Activities Director and Student Council adviser. “This is a big ball for you and your celebration for being a senior. It’s a gift from the juniors to the seniors.”

Junior class officer Araceli Castillo said that the organization for prom can be time consuming and stressful, and that there is not a second that goes by when the junior class doesn’t worry about messing up and doing something wrong; although, they know it will all be worth it in the end.

“Expect your socks to be completely blown off,” Castillo said. “Prom will definitely be a night to remember.”

This year’s theme is “A Night In Vegas,” full of sparkles and dark colors like gold, silver and black.

“In the junior class meetings, they got into groups and presented five different ideas that they had,” Stamey said. “The night in Vegas is what was everyone’s favorite.”

The junior class also made decisions on the food entrees and deserts that will be given on prom night.

“We choose with the student body in mind,” Castillo said. “We realized that if we went with something universal, like chicken, it would be easier to please everyone.”

Along with making choices with food, the juniors also had to decide on how to decorate the venue.

Stamey and junior class president Holly Weston said that there was a struggle to keep the theme classy and strictly about Vegas-style and the lights, and avoid the casino and gambling aspects of Las Vegas .

“It’s also just a show of pride,” Weston said. “I know Lewisville prom is very exciting, so it’s a Lewisville thing, too.”

Stamey said that she would love every junior and senior to experience prom at least once. She doesn’t want students to look back and ask why they did not attend prom and make memories.

Student body president Samantha Martinez said that she knows that prom is important, especially in her senior year.

“I’m very excited and I think everyone looks forward to [prom],”  Martinez said. “It’s the last, big, fun dance I’ll have in high school with all [my] friends.”
