Eight features of the iOS.8

Upgrading to iOS.8 is now an option for those with the iPhone 4s or any newer generation phone, along with all iPads except for the first generation. Finding space to allow the upgrade for those with iPhones could prove to be a challenge, especially with the 8 or 16 GB models.

Battery usage
•An option in the settings informs which apps drain your battery.

Channeling the weather
•Instead of getting the forecast from Yahoo, Apple now uses The Weather Channel.
•You can see nine days ahead and get a 24-hour forecast description.

Messaging options
•Apple is allowing third-party typing apps, including the swipe, finger dragging system.
•QuickType predicts the next word you want to type based on what has been typed in the past.
•Group messages have a new feature; add who you want, drop who you don’t, and leave the conversation if wanted.

Fine tuned camera controls
•You can now adjust the amount of lighting before you take a photo rather than having to go to a third-party app.
•A time-lapse allows you to fast play any video.
•A 3 or 10 second camera timer makes it easier to take selfies.

Family sharing
•Up to six people in a family can share purchases, pictures and calendars without having to share accounts.

Add voice to a conversation
•Simply touch and hold the microphone button to record messages, and swipe to send.

iPhone, iPad and Mac
•You can start an email on one device and continue on another.
•iPhone users can answer phone calls on their Mac or iPad.

Interactive notifications
•Allows you to quickly reply to texts, emails and other notifications without having to leave the app currently open.
