Halloween carnival to offer activities for all ages
The Halloween Carnival on Monday, Oct. 27 will offer activities for students in all grade levels.
Students can participate in a number of activities including a petting zoo, duck pond, cake walk, obstacle course and sack race.
“[The Halloween carnival is special because of] the way we can bring the community together,” Student Council sponsor Allison Stamey said. “We send invitations to all of our elementary schools, middle schools [and] high schools. It’s really special when you see the younger children come with their Halloween costumes, and you see the high school students helping the younger children. It’s just a way to open our school for the community to come and take part in our activities.”
This will be the ninth carnival and each year it improves.
Each ticket costs 50 cents, and the number of tickets for each activity varies. Each club is in charge of making its own money by having its own booth.
“We have a stand that has balloons on it and the children throw darts at the balloons,” Latino Club sponsor Lois Hardaway said. “If they pop a balloon they get really cool prizes, [and] they have three tries. Our students have a really good time. They enjoy it. It’s good for the community.”
The clubs have been working on the Halloween carnival for two months. They have had to create and deliver 15,000 flyers to all of the schools in the district.
“Creating this carnival has been a great experience because it’s making me become responsible and organized of my things,” Student Council secretary Brenda Rios said. “It’s cool to see the younger kids and how excited they are. I love it.”
