Triple A celebrates women’s history month
Civil Rights activist Hester J. Moore to speak on Tuesday
To commemorate women’s history month, the African American Association [Triple A] will sponsor a visit Tuesday night by Hester J. Moore, an actress, storyteller, and civil rights activist.
Moore will be giving a monologue about her participation with Martin Luther King Jr. in the sanitation strike, where two workers were killed due to harsh work conditions. As a result, a strike was formed until better conditions would be put in force. Moore was only 16 when she began. Throughout Moore’s presentation, Triple A members will be acting out her different memories of her involvement in the background.
Members of Triple A see the significance in black history and want to bring awareness. Triple A adviser Shonedra Redd said she believes Moore’s presentation could help decrease the gap in generations.
“I think in the generation now, sometimes there’s a disconnect from things that happened only 30 or 40 years ago, and just to see what people then went through to help us get to where we are now,” Redd said. “That’s why Triple A is highlighting this, and making it important and breaking it to the forefront.”
This event will be held in the auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free but donations will be accepted. Along with the monologue, a dance, a song and audience participation will occur.
