Prom decorations prove to be different but elegant
This year’s prom theme is the Chinese New Year, and the decorations are supposed to be some of the best that the school has yet seen.
The school has never had this idea before, and according to Student Council adviser Allison Stamey, it’s going to be quite the prom.
Prom is this Saturday, April 11 at 6 p.m. It will be at DFW Hyatt Regency, inside the airport.
“Grand Ball had done the Chinese New Year theme back in 2007,” Stamey said. “And I remember seeing it and it was beautiful. They had pictures that we got together and the juniors did a presentation based off of those and the prom books, and we just felt like that would be a really pretty prom.”
They did this presentation for the Chinese New Year theme in the Junior Class Council meeting, open to any juniors who want to attend, and all the junior STUCO officers attended. Stamey said this year’s decorations won’t disappoint.
“That whole Grand Ball Room in the DFW Hyatt Regency is like an open decoration celebrating the Chinese New Year,” Stamey said. “And then when you go into the prom we have the whole stage decorated. And each table has a large centerpiece that will be decorated.”
Stamey said that this is supposed to be the largest prom that Lewisville has had in six years, so they put a lot of hard work into the decorations, and added that it should be a great turnout judging from the tickets that have already been bought.
The Chinese New Year is also called the Spring Festival, because the turn of the Chinese calendar is at springtime, rather than what many Americans know as the New Year. Because of the school’s diversity in students, it should be a good theme for many of the Asian cultures that have celebrated Chinese New Year and the surrounding countries with similar traditions.
“It’s going to be a really nice night, and I’m excited for the Chinese New Year theme,” Stamey said. “We’ve never done it before, and it’s such a big celebration for so many people in our area, and we like to change up what we do and keep people guessing. The decorations are going to be really pretty.”
