Superintendent search finished
Rogers announced as lone finalist; contract to be approved after 21-day waiting period
The nearly four-month search for a new superintendent ended with a standing ovation on Monday, April 27 at the school board’s special meeting with the announcement of Dr. Kevin Rogers as the lone finalist for the position.
Dr. Rogers has been with the district for all 29 years of his career in education, holding many positions from teaching and coaching to being an administrator for both the district and multiple campuses. The law states that there must be a three-week waiting period before a new superintendent’s contract can be approved. Dr. Rogers’ contract is due to be approved on May 18.
“Dr. Rogers is the best choice for us,” board member Kathy Duke said. “His strategic design plan shares a vision with the board’s. We made the right choice for LISD.”
After looking at nearly a hundred applicants, Duke said Dr. Rogers showed to be the best for the district due to his determination to help all students excel in school and will help bring about change to adapt with the future. She added that Dr. Rogers also includes teachers, administrators and the community in important decisions within the district.
Dr. Rogers has served as the interim superintendent after the previous superintendent, Dr. Stephen Waddell, retired on Jan. 31 of this year.
“My goal is to be a great team member, and I promise I will work hard at that and to serve the students, the staff, and the community of LISD,” Dr. Rogers said.
