The Central Zone will be hosting “What is Your Plan?” on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 6-9 p.m. in the cafeteria and auditorium. The event is free and open to all parents and students from grades 6-12. Gloria Campos, who is a retired news anchor for WFAA, is the keynote speaker of the night.

As students move from middle school to high school it is important to realize that it is never too early to start thinking about plans following graduation. As the school year comes to an end, many seniors are not prepared for what comes after; some have no plans to go to college and others are jobless. The goal of the night is to get students to start thinking about their futures.

“[Gloria Campos is] talking about ‘What’s your plan?,’ ‘What do you want to do?,’” StuCo adviser Allison Stamey said. “Start thinking about what plan you need to be successful. Because some people go through [their high school careers] and they get to be a senior in high school and they still don’t have a plan. So we are trying to get our students more prepared for real life as they step out of here. To be ready.”

In addition, there will also be tables setup with all of the different clubs and organizations that the school offers.

“There will be breakout sessions providing information about class rank, GPA, earning high school credit in middle school, career centers, advanced placement, dual credit, high school 101, post secondary options, paying for college and much more,” assistant principal Monica Story said.

The event hopes to give vital information to students as they continue on through high school and real life. There are choices that have to be made, but having alternatives is also important.

“There are options you can go to,” Stamey said. “You can go to a university, community college, technical school, trade school. They want the kids to start thinking in their minds what they would like to do.”
