Interact to volunteer at 5K
Money to be raised to support fight against human trafficking
Members of Interact club will volunteer at the Run for Freedom 5K in support of YouCanFree.Us on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Unity Park in Highland Village.
“This organization, called YouCanFree.Us, is significant because they are a human rights organization that fights against sex trafficking through advocacy, rescue and rehabilitation,” Interact member Madison Lopez said. “They’re making a difference around the globe.”
Interact is a Rotary Club that hopes to help the school and community in any way possible. Members are able to gain an international understanding of situations by volunteering at events.
“Interact is passionate about serving our community, so to assist an organization that fights against human trafficking around the world is exciting, fulfilling and means a lot to [us],” Lopez said.
Club members are excited to learn more about issues around the globe while also doing everything they can to help resolve them locally to make an overall greater impact.
“This 5K really opens the community to a completely different part of the world,” Interact president Chris Del Carpio said. “It really shows there are real issues beyond what happens here at home.”
Volunteering and getting involved within the community has a lot of a significance on participants. They are able to see that there are problems beyond their own and that there are more pivotal issues to be dealt with.
“Really this event symbolizes what our community is about because whether you have issues here at home or halfway across the world we are here to help you,” Del Carpio said. “Anyone interested in this event should really get involved for such a worthy cause.”
