No hype here

After only two tickets were sold, HypeFest has officially been canceled.

The dance planned by Student Council was originally set to be held on Friday, March 3 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. in the cafeteria.

“I have never seen such a lack of school spirit and enthusiasm as I have this year,” student activities director Allison Stamey said.

Despite the activities planned to take place at the HypeFest, such as a bull riding simulator, outdoor yard games and a DJ, students didn’t purchase tickets to attend the event.

“There was no hype in it,” Stamey said.

StuCo began planning HypeFest as a way to raise money for the student activities fund that helps pay for activities throughout the school year. Students would’ve needed to purchase at least 200 tickets and raise $4,000 to have the event take place.

“It seemed like another way to get everyone together,” school service officer Kolby Blair said. “It seemed like another homecoming.”

Student Council officers voted to host HypeFest as a way for students to bring back their school spirit. They wanted to keep the student body interested in school activities in the “doom and gloom” months of the year.

“Come back [and be involved],” Stamey said. “High school is fun, but if you don’t make the most out of it, then you’re not going to have that experience.”
