Student Council’s annual blood drive will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 1 during the school day outside of the arena. Students who are at least 17 years old and weigh 110 pounds are eligible to donate blood. Students who wish to donate will need to get a permission slip signed by their parents as well. Student Council members hope to count on the donations of at least 145 students.
Hoping to surpass the number from last year, Student Council members encourage students to take part in the blood drive. A table is set up during all lunches in the cafeteria where flyers containing information about the blood drive can be picked up.The flier also contains a QR code where students can sign up to donate blood.
“We are really hoping to break our number from last year,” LISD Liaison Ayrica Jones said. “You are not just saving one life, you are saving three.”
The seniors who decide to donate blood on Nov 1. and later on in the spring will earn a blood donation cord to wear at graduation. If students want to donate blood but are unable to due to personal issues, they may have their parents donate blood in their name.
“You can really save somebody’s life at the end of the day,” Community Service Officer Kaiden Reese said. “One donation of blood can go a long way for a certain family.”
All of the blood donations will go straight to Carter BloodCare. Carter BloodCare hopes to collect 50,000 units of whole blood this school year at high school blood drives.
“Each year I get to see these amazing students stepping up to help others in need,” Student Activities Director Allison Stamey said.
