The student vs. faculty basketball game, hosted by Student Council, will take place Friday, Jan. 26 in the arena. To attend the game, students must purchase a ticket for $2 in G144 in order to leave their fourth period and attend the game at 3:05 p.m.
The idea sparked from senior Anthony Marquez Camacho when thinking of fundraiser ideas for Student Council that would get students to come out and participate.
“The involvement, when you get a big group of people to come together, have fun and watch a game, could be a really good memory,” Marquez Camacho said.
Third period on the day of the game is students’ last chance to purchase tickets. Students must have their current IDs to be let out of fourth period.
“[I’m excited to see] all the students in the stands because they have an incentive to come to this rather than being in fourth period,” student coach Ore Olayinka said. “I’m really excited for the turnout and the environment of everybody having fun.”
Maquez Camacho formed his team by creating a Google Form for interested players. He had a multitude of responses, and one included senior Molly Gaus. Gaus had taken the role up after her friends encouraged her to use height as an advantage in the game.
“I feel like we have a chance, but also they have old [division one] people on their team,” Gaus said. “But, we have some pretty good people.”
The student vs. faculty basketball game is returning after it has not been hosted since 2015. So, Student Council hopes this is a tradition that can be restored.
“I think it’s going to be a whole lot of fun for people, and it’s going to set a precedent,” Olaykina said. “The student vs. faculty game is something they used to do all the time, but they stopped, and now we’re trying to bring it back. It can be like another tradition that they keep doing.”
