The cheer squad will head to Nationals this Thursday, Feb. 8 in Orlando, FL.
“It feels good, I’ve done cheer all my life,” varsity cheer coach Koneshieon Keaton said. “So [we] always want nationals. It’s always really fun, it’s exciting. It kind of wraps up the year. [It’s] almost bittersweet because after this [the season] is done, but it’s a great feeling.”
The squad also saw an improvement from the beginning of the year.
“I think we have mostly improved our chemistry,” senior cheer captain Scarlet Lomeli said. “I feel like that’s the number one thing a team needs to be able to go out and perform a routine.”
The team also looks to have a good mindset heading into nationals.
”The true mindset for nationals is to give everything that you have,” freshman Torie Williams said. “That way we’ll win or have no regrets if we do end up coming short.”
The squad also looks to repeat their own performance from state that proved to be a big turning point for the team.
“The expectation is to [do] what we did at state and do it times 10,” Keaton said. “They performed to a level I didn’t coach them while watching it. I just watched it, it was so good.”
The team also has a lot of expectations for themselves in their performance.
“My expectations for nationals this year is to come back to Lewisville either with a ring or knowing I did everything I could,” Williams said.
