Following their successful performance of “Beauty and the Beast,” the theater department is preparing for another production.
On Dec. 14 at 6 p.m., the 24-Hour Holiday Play Fest will take the stage at the Stuver Auditorium, offering a unique and fast-paced celebration of creativity.
For a $15 participation fee, students will have 24 hours to create, rehearse and perform a series of holiday-themed one-act plays. Students are invited to bring their own snacks to enjoy during the show and meals are also provided.
The process will begin Friday at 7 p.m., where students will gather to work on scripts, costumes, props and staging. The results will then be showcased on Saturday evening as the group presents four original plays to an eager audience in a one-hour performance.
“I am 10 out of 10 excited for this playfest,” junior Wyatt Knight said. “It’s such a fun event that brings a lot of people together to show off their skills and learn. I’m hoping to be an actor or a playwright in a Grinch-themed story.”
Other students agree that there should be a Grinch-based story in the show due to it being a well-known classical Christmas film and story.
“A lot of people have been wanting a satirical Grinch story,” junior vice president Aubrey Birdsall said. “I want one to look like an SNL because it would be fun to act it out.”
Participants also filled out a Google Form based on what role they wanted and who they wanted to work with. In addition, they will have access to lighting, sound and other technical support. However, all stories must be appropriate for all ages and chaperones will be present to monitor behaviors.
With its blend of student ingenuity and holiday cheer, the event is sure to be a festive highlight for the entire community.
“I’m really excited about the creativity our kids bring to any prompt,” associate director Amanda Rojas said. “I am excited to be surprised with whatever they come up with in that timespan.”
