Column: A little more love

Technology brings great innovations, but with that also comes a negative effect, being that society is more focused on what’s on their phones than actual people.

Bullying and suicide has grown drastically because of the increase of the technology use.

Rapper Machine Gun Kelly recently released a song alongside a music video for his single “A Little More.”

Both the song and the music video covers our new generation and how we processes information differently than back in the day. Our world is changing and MGK points out the evil in the new society.

The video is graphic, especially at the end when a teenage girl commits suicide due to kids tormenting her. MGK grabs her body and takes it to the middle of the street and no one helps him and her, they just all stare and take pictures on their phone.

They could have called 911 and saved her, but they were all worried about their cell phones.

Our generation is corrupted and it’s sad the direction we are going in, but we can stop it with using love. That’s the focal point of MGK’s video; a little more love can make everything better.

If people we would stop using hate and anger to fuel their life, we would live in a tranquil universe. Love and affection can go a long way.

Who knows? Maybe if there was more passion and affection, there would be less people thinking about suicide and a decrease in the number of people diagnosed with depression.

This is a serious issue, it gets brushed off to the side a lot because many people feel that no one around them is affected by these issues, but in reality the majority of the population deals it. Especially depression.

Here at LHS we had mandatory classes on suicide prevention. I honestly don’t think that it did any good for me or helped me in any way, not because it was “dumb” or a “waste of time,” but because it just brought back old memories that I didn’t want to remember.
Like me crying myself to sleep every single night or having to put on a fake smile like it was a mask.

It did some good though. For those who never had to deal with suicide and depression it gave them acknowledgement of it. For those who were/are dealing with it, they found out whom they could talk to about their problems, like the hotlines that were given or teachers, therapist and counselors.

We also had different awareness weeks/days such as suicide awareness week and Red Ribbon Week put on by Drug Advice Service & Hotline (D.A.S.H.) committee in Student Council. There were posters and flyers all around campus with numbers to call if help was needed.

Our generation likes to bottle up their feelings. Sometimes it’s a good thing, but most of the time it’s not, because them people can’t tell if you need help.

I feel that Machine Gun Kelly released “A Little More” at the perfect time because it was an eye opener.  It is encrypted with a powerful message of paying attention to your surroundings and life, not your electronic devices or phony people.

This could start a movement and really make a impact in the world. Because, let’s face it, we need more positive vibes around us and less hate in the world.

We only have one life and it should be filled with love, joy and good times, not faulty and bad vibes.
