The cross country boys and girls teams have wrapped up their regular seasons, and will now try to run for their lowest times at district for a shot at racing at regionals and state.
They will be competing at the District 8-5A championship meet at North Lakes Park in Denton on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8 a.m.
Although this could be the final meet of the year, coach Ray White is confident that the boys and girls teams are both ready to compete at district against the many other solid schools.
“We’re as ready as we’re going to be,” White said. “Flower Mound, Plano, Marcus… pretty much the whole district is going to be tough, so we’re just going to do what we’ve been working for all season and see what happens.”
Sophomore Wesley Townsend has been working his hardest all year to prepare for this meet. Townsend is concentrated on what he and his team must do in order to win.
“We have to put our all into the meet, and leave nothing behind,” Townsend said. “If we don’t win this one, the season is over – just like that. It really means a lot to us.”
Senior Alma Hernandez has been inspired by a quote that has enforced her to run well each meet.
“‘Be not afraid of your greatness, reach above your limit,'” Hernandez said. “That quote means so much to me. I’ve been holding onto it throughout the season.”
Both teams ran at this course for the second race of the season. White will take advantage of the fact that his runners are familiar and comfortable with the course, and that the weather will be at a cool temperature on Saturday morning.
“It’s really a great day for us to run,” White said. “The weather is going to be near-perfect. We’re looking forward to competing very much.”
