The football team (0-2) is facing Irving (0-2) tonight. Neither team has recorded a win, therefore the pressure is on for the first victory of the season.
According to head coach Gregg Miller, both teams share equal footing.
“We are very similar,” Miller said. “They have a lot of skilled guys, big kids, and some kids that can really play. They also have a new coaching staff, and a new head coach – just like we do over here. There are a whole lot of similarities between us, which will make for an interesting game.”
Senior running back Deandre Brown has been a key player for the team’s offensive game. Brown has 356 yards in 52 attempts, which is nearly seven yards per attempt. He also contributed two rushing touchdowns last week against Ennis.
“[Brown] is a great running back,” Miller said. “We’re going to hand him the ball a lot tonight and utilize his abilities for our benefit.”
Coach Miller said that he is accountable for both of the team’s losses, and that the team and himself will improve as the season goes on.
“I’m not at all ashamed of the way we’ve played,” Miller said. “It’s just that some of the things we’ve done have hurt us. We are beating ourselves, and it’s not [the player’s] fault. Sometimes we aren’t on the same page with things, and I’ll take the blame for that. This season is a work in progress, for sure, but we’re going to work hard to get the job done.”
