Cross country teams to race at district Saturday
The cross country teams will compete at the district meet tomorrow, Oct. 26, at Northlake Park in Denton.
It will be the final meet of the season for runners if they do not advance to regionals. The girls varsity will run at 1 p.m. with the boys to follow at 1:30.
Head captain senior Andrew Cobos has the top time for the varsity boys this fall and said he hopes to be moving to regionals.
“I believe I can do it,” Cobos said. “It’s just going to take a lot of work.”
The boys placed 11th at their last meet on Oct. 12, the team’s own Rick Neill Memorial. Cobos finished 15th out of 98 varsity runners at the 5K distance with a 17:17.7. Sophomore Juan Calixto finished 40th with a time of 17:57.4.
The girls varsity finished ninth overall at the Rick Neill. Top finishers for the girls were junior Manijeh Rustomji with a 23:01.6 and sophomore Anayeli Calixto with a 23:04.7.
Though he’s missed time with an injury, co-captain Wesley Townsend called it a “good year” for the Farmers and added that he sees “the difference in talent [of his teammates]” within a bigger varsity team this season.
