Volleyball to face Plano West
Currently 2-2, Lady Farmers remain hopeful for successful season
The varsity volleyball team is currently 2-2 in district this season. Varsity head coach Libby Rodriguez is optimistic about what the rest of the season has in store.
“I think it’s gonna be really good,” Rodriguez said. “At the beginning it was a roller coaster, but this season will be fun.”
Summer tryouts started with eight 200-meter sprints at midnight, and then continued with three days of intense conditioning. The girls have worked really hard to get to where they are now. However, they still have a few kinks to work out.
“The biggest problem right now is our consistency offensively, and just getting excited on the court,” Rodriguez said.
Being a student athlete can be stressful sometimes. The girls have to learn to stick together and not let stress or personal problems get in the way of the game.
“We talk more [compared to last year] and help each other out,” senior volleyball player Jermila Tigner said. “We have team bondings where we joke around and just vibe off the court.”
All the bonding and practice led the girls to win their first district home game of the season, 3-2, against Marcus.
“The game against Marcus was so hype,” Tigner said. “We had so many people come support us; we had to show out.”
Following Marcus, the girls lost to Hebron and Allen, and then won against Flower Mound. However, the losses won’t stop them as they move forward in the season.
“I expect us to be competitive and give it all we got,” Rodriguez said. “As long as we give it all we got, win or lose, we will be able to walk off the court satisfied.”
