Farmers finish season
Farmers finish season with last district opponent Plano High
Lewisville [3-4 district, 4-5 overall] says goodbye to football season with the last game tonight at 7:30 against Plano [1-6, 3-6].
Last Thursday, Lewisville faced their district competitor, McKinney Boyd [4-3, 5-4], and lost by a close 42-31. This game was the deciding factor for the final seed going into playoffs from district 6-6A in Texas. Despite being tied going into the fourth quarter, the Farmer defense allowed 14 points to be scored in the fourth quarter putting the Broncos in the lead with the final score.
“It was a momentum thing,” junior wide receiver Tyrell Shavers said. “Once we went down, we stayed down and never really picked it back up.”
Senior quarterback Aubreion Bobb threw for 171 yards in the last home game of the year, and wasn’t able to keep up with Boyd’s quarterback, Grant Restmeyer, who threw for 279 yards. Boyd’s ground game was a strong point for them, enabling them to tire out the Farmer defense and score two touchdowns in the last five minutes for their win and continuation into playoffs.
“[McKinney Boyd] made a lot of big plays towards the end that we didn’t make,” Bobb said. “We had a lot of crucial turnovers throughout the game. Even when defense would get the stop we would turn the ball back over.”
Tonight Lewisville has the chance to make their overall record 5-5, which would be the best record since head coach Gregg Miller became head coach in 2012. Despite not making playoffs since 2007, the Farmers have been improving their record annually, coming up from a 1-9 record in the 2008-2009 school year.
“5-5 makes a big difference than 4-6,” Bobb said. “[Throughout] growing up in Lewisville and since we were in elementary, no other Lewisville varsity team has won more than four games. So five would be perfect.”
Miller is taking things one week at a time by focusing on the Plano game before thinking about next year’s team.
“I’m very proud of the seniors,” Miller said. “They have put three off-seasons in of hard work. Twelve weeks of practice in 105 degree weather year after year. They have played hard and practiced their hearts out.”
With one more game to go, Miller and the rest of the team will take their skills and talents on the road to Tom Kimbrough Stadium to face Plano. Come out to watch the Farmers fight their way to a great season closer.
